1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Books Listening ("the app"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. The Product

Books Listening is a browser-based text-to-speech reading application sold as a one-time purchase. You receive:

A downloadable HTML file (reading-room.html)
A unique license key to unlock the Pro version
Free updates to the app as we release them

3. License

Upon purchase, you are granted a personal, non-transferable license to use Books Listening on your own devices. This means:

✅ You may keep and use it forever — no subscription required
✅ You will receive free updates when available
❌ You may not share, resell, or distribute the app or your license key
❌ You may not reverse-engineer, decompile, or modify the app for redistribution
❌ You may not use the app to provide commercial reading services to others

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use Books Listening only for lawful purposes. You may not use the app to:

Read or distribute copyrighted books you do not own or have the right to use
Circumvent digital rights management (DRM) of protected content
Engage in any activity that violates applicable laws

Books Listening reads books you supply. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use the content you read with the app.

5. Payment, Refunds & Returns

All purchases are processed by Gumroad (gumroad.com). The purchase price is $14.99 (one-time). There are no recurring fees, subscriptions, or hidden charges.

Why Our Policy Is Strict — And Fair

Books Listening offers a complete free trial before any purchase is required. You can test every feature — upload your actual books, try the voices, use the dictionary, and evaluate the reading experience — at zero cost and without providing a credit card. Because you have the opportunity to fully evaluate the product before buying, we do not offer refunds for change of mind.

When You Are Entitled to a Refund

✅ App does not function — a technical defect prevents the app from loading, reading, or working, and our support team cannot resolve it within 48 hours of your report
✅ License key not delivered — you paid but never received your license key by email (check spam first; contact us if not found)
✅ Duplicate charge — you were charged more than once for the same purchase

When Refunds Are Not Available

❌ Change of mind after purchase
❌ Dissatisfaction with voice quality (voice quality varies by browser and operating system — we strongly recommend testing during your free trial using Microsoft Edge for the best results)
❌ Requests made more than 7 days after the purchase date
❌ Requests where the license key has already been shared, transferred, or used by multiple people
❌ Requests arising from failure to follow the setup instructions provided

How to Request a Refund

Include your Gumroad order number (found in your purchase receipt email)
Describe the technical issue you experienced
We will respond within 24 hours and attempt to resolve the issue first
If we cannot resolve it within 48 hours, we will issue a full refund via Gumroad

Chargeback Policy

We strongly encourage you to contact us before initiating a chargeback with your bank or credit card provider. Filing a chargeback without first contacting us may result in your license key being permanently deactivated. We are committed to resolving any legitimate issue quickly and fairly.

6. Trial Period

Books Listening includes a free trial with full access — no credit card or account required. The trial gives you 200 sentences of narration with no time limit. You can take days or weeks to use your trial sentences. During this period you can upload books, listen, use the dictionary, bookmark, and test every feature. After the 200 free sentences, a per-session reading limit applies until a Pro license is activated.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

Books Listening is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with every device or browser. Voice availability depends on your browser and operating system.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BooksListening.com shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use of the app. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the product ($14.99).

9. Intellectual Property

Books Listening and its code are the intellectual property of BooksListening.com. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. The app is protected by copyright law.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
